Missha Cream and Oil Soak Masks

Hi everyone! I'm thrilled to share this review with you because these sheet masks are probably one of my all time favorite sheet masks! Yes, you've heard it right!! And they're even more amazing now that the temperature is decreasing because they feel not only hydrating but also very moisturizing! :D

The Missha Cream and Oil Soak Masks is a little collection of 4 masks: 2 cream masks and 2 oil masks.

Let's go to the review!

Missha Oil Soak Mask Glow & Oil Soak Mask Moisturizing

Both the Glow and the Moisturizing masks are similar in terms of mask material, type of essence, fit and scent, so I regroup them for the review but I will discuss the ingredients separately.

Name: Missha Oil Soak Mask Glow & Oil Soak Mask Moisturizing

Mask name
Main ingredient
Oil Soak Mask Glow
Argan oil
Oil Soak Mask Moisturizing
Rose hip oil

Content: 25g
Cost: USD 4.48 (now USD 3.81) on jolse.com (free shipping)
Type of material: thin natural cellulose and sarcandra fabric. I'm not sure what sarcandra is (except it's a plant) but apparently it's a type of material with small holes in it, it's able to retain the oil essence in the mask easier than traditional cotton masks.
Scent: The Glow mask has a sutble warm scent; the Moisturizing mask has a medium rose scent, the scent lasted throughout my masking session but decrease from a medium to a more subtle scent.
Type of essence: both masks have the same type of essence: clear, more viscous than water and with a silky touch. In fact, when I used the leftover essence on my arms (there was a lot of essence left in the packet), it felt like I was appling a light oil, my skin felt silky and satin-soft!

Ingredients:
Oil Soak Mask Glow
Water, Glycereth-26, Glycerin, PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Dimethyl Silane, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, PVM/MA Copolymer, Xanthan Gum, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter Fruit, Lecithin, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Cyclomethicone, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Hexylene Glycol, Hydroxyacetophenone, Disodium EDTA, Hexanediol, Fragrance

Oil Soak Mask Moisturizing
Water, Glycerin, Glycereth-26, PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Dimethyl Silane, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, PVM/MA Copolymer, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter Fruit, Lecithin, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Cyclomethicone, Rosa Canina Flower Oil, Tocopherol/Vitamin E, Hexylene Glycol, Hydroxyacetophenone, Disodium EDTA, Hexanediol, Fragrance

Both masks have almost the same ingredients, the only difference is that the Moisture version contains rose flower oil while the Glow version contains argan oil.

In more details, they contain in addition to water:
·       Glycerin, an humectant that is able to retain water and therefore bring hydration
·       some texture modifying agents, some of them being also emollients (Glycereth-26, PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Dimethyl Silane, Glyceryl Acrylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, PVM/MA Copolymer, Xanthan Gum, Cyclomethicone)
·       PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, emollient plant extract
·       Sodium Hyaluronate, a powerful humectant able to draw water into your skin
·       some emollients and skin-replenishing ingredients, such as shea butter and lecithin.
·       And then you have some Rose flower Oil for the Moisture Mask and some Argan oil for the Glow mask.

o   Rose oil: fragrant oil that contains molecules with soothing and antioxidant properties.

o   Argan oil: Non-fragrant plant oil with antioxidant and moisturizing properties. Argan oil contains several beneficial lipids and fatty acids for skin, including mainly oleic and linoleic acids but also palmitic and stearic acid. It is also a good source of antioxidant vitamin E (tocopherol) and a good source of other antioxidant compounds. It feels overall very moisturizing.

I was a bit confused at first because these masks contain a lot of functional ingredients including some polymers with thickening or film-forming properties and the oil (rose or argan) comes only later in the ingredient list. In another way, the masks gave me crazy results in terms of moisture and glow. After thinking about this a bit more, I remember than when I use an oil, I always use only a drop or 2 mixed in a cream or gel. Using more would make my face an oil slick. So this makes sense.

THOUGHTS/SUMMARY
The Glow mask: This is the mask that contains argan oil. In terms of results, my skin looked strengthened/seemed more resilient, the pores around my noses were less visible (almost disappeared, they look smoothed). When I removed the mask, my skin was slightly tacky but not overly sticky. My skin felt moisturized and baby soft (I'm not kidding) but the most spectacular effect was the GLOW! My skin was glowing like never before! ...I was even shocked because I didn't expect this. ...I think argan oil is my new friend! Seriously, this is one of the most impressive masks I've tried! Glowy, soft, supple and moisturizing skin was the result!

The Moisturizing mask: This is the mask with rose oil. In terms of results, my skin looked more firm and resilient, nicely hydrated and moisturized and it was also glowing but not as glowing as with the Glow mask. It was still a great mask that I would gladly repurchase. If you like rose scented products, don't hesitate! It's totally worth it in my opinion.

For both masks, the essence felt silky soft, sank in very quickly and didn't form a film on the skin. Overall, these 2 masks are totally worth it. It seems that when the weather gets colder, my skin loves oils, so these masks were just perfect. I was pretty impressed because honestly, I didn't expect such results. I highly recommend them and I think they can work for oily (yes even oily skin can benefit from facial oils) to dry skin.

Name: Missha Cream Soak Mask Hydrating & Cream Soak Mask Nourishing
Content: 25g
Cost: USD 4.48 (now USD 3.81) on jolse.com (free shipping)
Type of material: medium thickness cotton mask, it's thick but flexible and easy to adjust on the face
Scent: the scent is difficult to describe, it's a medium to strong creamy scent (if that makes sense). The scent quickly dissipates though. For the Nourishing mask, I added in my notes that the scent was creamy to floral with a fresh scent.
Type of essence: the essence is actually a creamy emulsion. The masks were drenched in this creamy emulsion. There wasn't much essence left in the packet but when you scrape down the sides of the packet, you can collect enought product to moisturize your arms.

Cream Soak Mask Nourishing
Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Dimethicone, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Mineral Oil, PEG-40 Stearate, Squalane, PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, Alcohol, Phenyl Trimethicone. Betaine, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Monostearate, Carbomer, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Arginine, Butylene Glycol, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Xanthan Gum, Panthenol, Rosa Centifolia Flower Water, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hyrolyzed Collagen, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Fragrance, Ethylhexylglycerin, Isohexadecane, Polysorbate 80, Sodium EDTA

The ingredients of the 2 Cream masks are more different.

For the Hydrating mask:

·       we have quite a lot of functional and texture modifying agents including silicones. That said, 2 interesting ingredients are:

o   Dimethicone: because when applied to skin, dimethicone forms a permeable barrier that works to prevent moisture loss and impart a silky feel

o   Glycerly Stearate: because it can slow the loss of water from the skin by forming a barrier on the skin's surface

=> these 2 compounds are great to prevent moisture loss

·       it also contains some humectants (glycerin, sorbitol, sodium hyaluronate)

·       some emollients (mineral oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride)

·       some anti-irritants (betaine, panthenol)

·       and later in the ingredient list but still valuable a botanical extract, Withania Somnifera Root Extract, which is known as the Indian ginseng or winter cherry. I didn’t know it but apparently it has anti-inflammatory, antioxidants and a plethora of other properties summarized in this review (1)

·       Later we also have centella asiatica, tea tree, chamomile, green tea, evening primrose, calendula and spirulina extracts but they seem to be present at a quite low concentration.

I’m not super impressed by the ingredients, I guess the main point of the mask, in addition to its humectant properties, are the emollients (mineral oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride), that do provide a good moisture boost and the ingredients that prevent water loss. The cream feels actually quite rich and moisturizing and forms a protective barrier that prevents moisture from evaporating from the skin. All in all, this is pretty interesting and results were great in terms of added moisture.

THOUGHTS/SUMMARY - Cream Hydrating Mask
In  terms of results, my skin felt really moisturized, glowy and healthy. It actually felt more moisturizing than hydrating, which is uncommon for a sheet mask but I really liked it. It felt cocooning and had the impression I was wrapped in a warm blanket drinking a hot chocolate :D So yes, this mask felt super moisturizing and I would also definitely repurchase it. What I wrote in my notes: "I really, really, really like it" :D

For the Nourishing mask:

the ingredients are a bit more simple

·       it contains humectants (glycerin, sorbitol)
·       and also rely on Caprylic/Capric Triglycerideand Mineral Oil as emollients
·       but you also have squalane, a great moisturizer and source of replenishing fatty acids and antioxidants, it therefore help to strengthen the skin barrier
·       and PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, another emollient.
·       It also contains betaine and panthenol.

·       Interestingly it contains rose flower water, centella asiatica, collagen, and a peptide (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8) that could have anti-aging properties (in studies formulated at 10% (2) , here it’s lower).

THOUGHTS/SUMMARY - Cream Nourishing Mask
In  terms of results, my skin felt nicely moisturized, more plump and elastic. It also felt more moisturizing than most sheet masks (that's due to the creamy emulsion it contains) but I found it slightly less moisturizing than the Hydrating version. It was still a very nice mask that I can recommend because it did felt very moisturizing and oveall great.

Overall although I was at first not super impressed when I read the ingredient lists, in terms of effects and results, I'm super impressed with these masks and they make me want to venture more into cream and oil masks. And to be honset, I will repurchase the Oil Glow, the Oil Moisturizing (because I love that rose scent) and the Cream Hydrating masks for sure!
