The multi-talented actor and producer Parul Yadav took to social media to promote local weavers in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu who have faced major losses because of the lockdown. "Indian handlooms are the absolute best in the world and it is upto all of us to ensure that this beautiful tradition is preserved and promoted," the actor-producer said requesting all her fans and people in India to support them.
"As Mahatma Gandhi said India lives in her villages and unless we ensure that there is sufficient economic opportunity in rural India we can not become the superpower that we can be," she further said.
Parul also shared a video on Instagram asking people tp support them. The video is a quirky take on using a handloom saree as a drape over typical teen wear and has garnered thousands of likes on the social media platforms it has been posted on.
"My Desi Challenge: Artist For Weavers. Handloom textiles and crafts hold a massive place in India's cultural heritage and is the only country that offers diverse weaving techniques. Due to the pandemic and reduced demand, the weaver community has been facing dire consequences with thousands of meters of fabric lying unsold. To save their skills, livelihoods and help a weaver smile again this #SheharKiLadki is here to remind you to support handloom and #ShopLocal," she captioned the post.
Here's the video she did about the weavers and how the global pandemic resulted in a lot of fabric being unused and the losses our local weavers had to face.
